Well, what can I say here!
Nigel and I have been
involved with modified vehicles of one description or another for
many years
now. It all started back in the late 80’s
when we bought a pick up to transport Nigel’s jet ski about, followed
by a trip to Hawaii where he first saw and fell in love with a seriously
modified pick up. The bug followed us home and resulted in some rather
large tyres arriving at home one day, and then a suspension lift kit,
shocks etc. and we were away!
The end result was
Monstrous a 9ft high, bright pink, modified Toyota Hi-Lux that first
gained Nigel
fame in the world of 4x4’s. We have
now paid tribute to this first modified truck of ours by naming our second
monster truck MONSTROUS after it.
This led us into the
world of 4x4’s and all sorts of modifications,
small and extreme. I soon became an expert in the language of suspension,
shocks, steering arms, tyres (44’s mainly swampers, super swampers,
boggers etc.etc.), articulation, lengthened props, differentials and
so on and LA Supertrux was born. (Named after myself!)
Soon Nigel (never
contented if you truly know him) Morris was talking about building
a Monster
Truck and before you could shake a spanner at
body lift kit he had built his first monster truck ‘Wildchild’ with
a lot of help from his friends and named it after one of my favorite
songs (yes, I am a metal head! It does help in this line of work - believe
me!!) Wildchild was a 2/3rds scale monster truck and starred in things
like Ant & Decs Saturday night takeaway, a Walkers crisp advert and
a music video by Shane Lynch & Keith Duffy to accompany their song “girl
you know it’s true”.
By now the ultimate
goal was a full sized monster truck and having completed a deal with
Bob Chandler
of Bigfoot in the USA back in 2002 work soon
began in earnest on Nigel’s latest creation and BIGFOOT 17 was
born! This is the only licensed Bigfoot ever to have been built outside
of the USA. Bigfoot has gained Nigel even more notoriety and soon the
word was out that he is the GURU of monster trucks in the UK. The rest,
as they say is history………but, then again, having known
him for the past 18 years… all I can say is NEVER SAY NEVER!!
